The retail sales data pretty much disappointed across the board. Since consumption accounts for about 70% of our economy, it should behoove you to pay attention. While the majority of the time the yearly sales percent change is between +1% and -1%, as you can see, the monthly data is quite volatile. For now, these figures don't factor much into my thinking about risk. Any persistent negative monthly figures could cause me reflect more about the future of the US economy.
